Venn by Halima Cassell

Venn was created for Halima’s solo exhibition at the Watts Gallery – Artist’s Village, Surrey in 2023

Influenced by the Venn diagram, Venn uses simple closed circles and ellipses to illustrate a state of being or relationship in perfect balance, visually representing the similarities and differences between two. This was inspired by Mary and George Watts who were both very spiritual and in balance with one another, and used the spherical form across their work.

When Venn and Eclipsis are displayed together with the perfect space between them, their lines combine and are completed by their union to create a perfect circle, bringing our emotional and spiritual selves together into the perfect balance. The circle is a strong symbol which references many meanings that can be found in the spiritual and scientific worlds.
